Four times we’ve used First Illinois Mortgage, always after looking very closely at rates and at closing costs. This latest time, in late January 2021, I only gave a quick cursory look at rates & costs before contacting First Illinois. It turned out (again) they were the most competitive after I checked rates & costs elsewhere as the loan closed. I had learned I didn’t really need to spend much time shopping. They were quick & efficient, and laid out the options clearly. A note of experience – your current mortgage servicer will likely tell you that a refi at their ‘special customer rate’ is your best option. Don’t believe that. Check with First Illinois and do yourself a favor.
